Kicking off the 2023/24 school year, students and staff are ready to start the new school year. There are a few changes this year like a new hall pass system, an addition to flex, new expectations for missing and late work, and new.
Hall passes this year are changing once more. “It’s a little bit frustrating that they keep changing things when we already get used to the systems,” senior Alex McEachern said. Instead of the Smart pass like we used last year, we are using E-pass. To use the bathroom or go anywhere in the building, students must fill out an online form. This will make it easier for students and staff to manage bathroom usage during school hours.
As for flex, we will still be having regular flex two days a week, but one day we will have a flex day where you will be in a flex with a group of people of mixed classes.
The new late and missing work expectations show that students are responsible for requesting and finishing upon return of absence. Students’ requests must be made within 2 days of your return. Teachers have the right to deny missing work if students ask for the past 5 days of your return. Students have the same number of days they were absent to complete their work. “I like how RHS made a school wide rule because now it’s clear for how each of my teachers will handle my missing work if I was absent.” junior Daniel Duhaylonsod said.
We have 15 new teachers this year. In the science department we have Ms. Morris, and Mrs. Sparks. New in social studies are Ms. Quaiatto, and Mr. Willoughby. In math we have Ms. Kaatz and Mr. Bagan. In the English department we have Ms. Johnson, and Ms. Weldon. In our physical education program, we welcome Mr. Lewis. We have new special education teachers, Mr. Silage and Mr. Fabry. And for our new para pros, restorative justice aides, and technology para are Mr. Gilbert, Mr. Baker, Mr. Boler, and Mr. Stanley. When you see the new teachers in the halls, stop and say hello.
Even though there are a few changes to our school year, students are ready to have a good school year. The changes will be hard to get accustomed to for students, especially returning students, but the new expectations and policies are in place to make this year productive and a better environment for students and staff. Have an amazing school year Roseville.
