The Panthers had their first Unified basketball game of the season on Wednesday, Jan 9 at Grosse Pointe North, winning 59-16. Senior Darryl Brown led the team to victory with the help of junior Jermaine Davis.
“It felt good coming out to show my talent off, showing everyone where I came from,” Brown said.
“I was feeling confident and excited with passing the ball to my teammates,” Davis said.
The Unified team is for special education students to play competitive sports with other schools. “The most rewarding thing about coaching the Unified teams is watching all the hard work pay off. Our players not only learn how to play the game, but I’ve witnessed them gain friendships that are lasting, “coach Joshua Kovach said.
The team was given the opportunity to play at Little Caesars Arena which will certainly be a highlight of the season for them. They also qualify for states this year and may have the opportunity to play there as well. The next game will be on Friday, Jan 24, at 4pm at Grosse Pointe South, so come and show the Panthers some love for their great talent.
