On Feb. 2 our central administration and Macomb Intermediate School District honored seniors Arvant Mitchell and Spencer Reini for excellence in skills attained through Career and Technical Education (CTE) classes at our school. Mitchell was awarded for excellence in woodworking, welding, machine tools, and building trades and Reini was awarded for his skills attained and used in Marketing. Students at our school are granted a vast number of opportunities in CTE courses, with Mitchell and Reini displaying the variety that can come from this with each of them exhibiting skills in a different part of the CTE spectrum.
When asked how they felt about winning their respective awards they had these words to offer: “I was excited, but also pretty nervous for it,” Mitchell said and, “It was really nice; they gave me about six little awards. The food was good too,” Reini said. Mitchell and Reini are just two of many examples of the great skills you can learn in our school, ones which can help you in life in the long run.
CTE is often only thought of as shop classes, but it also includes classes such as Marketing, Web Design, and Mechatronics – teaching skills in anything from business to graphic design to engineering. Even if you do not wish to pursue an adjacent career to one of the CTE courses after high school they can still teach useful and important life skills, especially in classes like Marketing and Auto Shop.
