On Wednesday, Dec. 4, seniors Desmond Straughton and Eric Slater participated in early signing day to show their commitment to play college football. It started off with Coach Vernard Snowden introducing his four-year starters, Straughton and Slater, and congratulating them on their success.
“It was amazing seeing all my family, friends, and teachers there showing support. I’m beyond grateful for this journey that I’m on and I loved every moment of it,” Slater said.
Things got a little emotional when both of their mothers spoke about their sons, but when the papers came out and it was time to sign, it was all smiles. Slater signed to Howard University on a full ride, and Straughton signed to The University of Illinois on a full ride.
“It was a dream come true just hoping to play at the next level and to get an education for free is very surreal,” Straughton said.
