RHS’s very own Joe Baker has won Michigan Wrestling Association’s assistant coach of the year award for the 2026 season. Baker, who graduated from RHS in 2004, wrestled throughout his high school career. Not only is he a decorated coach, but a decorated wrestler as well making the varsity wrestling team all four years of high school, becoming the team’s district champion three times as well as the team regional wrestling champion three times. As a coach, he led his team to multiple team district championships and has also coached a 2x state champion.
When asked about his new award, Baker said “I feel like I don’t deserve it.” Off the mat, Baker is known as kind and humble and when talking about his team, a smile always washes over his face. “All the work that the team and I put in paid off,” he said. “If the team didn’t buy into what we were doing, I would’ve never been in consideration for the award.”
Congratulations, coach Baker!
