The girls’ varsity home opening game was phenomenal, with the team winning against Clintondale 58-16 on Wednesday, Dec. 4. Senior Keyonna Scorpio led her team to victory with 19 points with the help of Meko Barbee having 15 rebounds.
“As a first home opener, it was a nervous but happy moment. In my last first home game with the team and the people I basically grew up with, it was a bittersweet moment,” Scorpio said.
Seniors Dionni John and Rihanna Reeves played solid defense with each of them having five steals. “Playing with people who watch me grow from my freshman year and being able to help my team win will always be a good feeling,” John said.
Kimari Lang, one of the juniors on the team and starting point guard for varsity for two years, boosted her team to a win with five assists. “I’m glad to know that everyone trusts me with the ball and leading the team. It’s just an amazing opportunity,” Lang said.
With the sophomores on varsity cheering them on and helping them in the game, RHS secured the win with a great kick off to their season.
