On Friday, Oct.18, the varsity football recognized staff appreciation day. The teachers were given a note and a player jersey the day before. The next day many teachers attended the varsity football game, and they created a tunnel to welcome the players onto the field before the game.
Varsity head football coach Vernard Snowden said that the program participates in staff appreciation day because it teaches the athletes to show gratitude for the adults that help them with their education.
Player and junior Damyron Brown chose Lisa Stack, who currently works at the front visitor desk. The reason he picked Stack is because she came to RHS as a substitute teacher, and she has been amazing since then, according to Brown.
Another player and junior, Bryant Snowden, chose to recognize math teacher Andrew Bagan because he always helps him with his work, and he does not get frustrated when he asks for help. Bagan also helps him stay focused in class.
Social studies teacher Brenna Roush was picked by junior player David Foutner. “It makes me feel appreciated and thankful to the student who picks me and means a lot that a student would take time out their day to write an appreciation note,” Roush said.
English teacher Kayla Brewer was chosen by senior player Perrion Matthews. To Brewer, it represents that she is making an impact on a student’s life. She was happy because she never had Perrion Matthews as a student, making the honor even more special.
This is a tradition that has been going on for many years, usually towards the end of each football season.
