The RHS varsity football program has not gone off the start we were hoping for. Despite us losing a hard-fought game, week two against Anchor Bay, 66-65, and in week five against Grosse Pointe South, 38-21. We still are keeping our heads high and taking it week by week to fulfill our aspirations of making it to a state championship. As the team heads into the second half of our season, we also have three dominating wins against Brother Rice, 35-0, Lakeview, 42-21, and against L’Anse Creuse North, 56-6.
The team is now 3-2, going into this new season we had made a new motto to stand by, “OnlyUs”, and to me that means that for the next nine weeks we have each other’s back. We are not worried about rankings, the opposing team, or media. “OnlyUs” is not just a motto for the football team, it is a brotherhood. “OnlyUs’ means that we are going into war together, to give our all and play until the clock hits zero,” Varsity captain and starting middle linebacker D’Ondre Fordham said.
Starting off my senior year has been good besides the two losses. We have received so much love and support from the community. Coming into this season knowing I only have nine guaranteed high school games to play then I am off to college is frightening, but I am super grateful for the teammates and coaches I am surrounded by. I plan to take advantage of every opportunity I get to play high school football for the last few times whether it is in practice, in a game, or even the team bonding in the locker room.
