On Monday, Feb 13 the high school held their annual Mock School Board meeting. 17 RHS seniors were chosen and got to quite literally mock the real school board!
The students started off their day bright and early at an 8:30 meeting at the administration building. They chatted about their plans for the day and introduced themselves over breakfast with all the students and school board members. After breakfast the group went on a little tour around the Administration Building. The members giving the tour shared little facts and bits of information throughout, to give the students a little better understanding of the building. Next students broke off from the group to spend 1on1 time with their counterpart in which they’d be mocking later that night to learn more about what they do and how they do it, and just to learn a little about them personally. The counterparts also wanted to get to know the students. The students were asked about their plans after high school, about their hobbies and about school. Next the students went to lunch and hung out, talking amongst each other about their days thus far. After lunch was over, they all traveled back to the administration building to practice for the biggest part of this entire day, the actual mock school board meeting! The students spent time rehearsing their lines and perfecting their positions as school board members! After practice, the students were sent home and ready for that night’s school board meeting!
6:30 that night the real-deal meeting started, and students were anxiously excited to begin! These students worked hard to stay professional and focused during the whole meeting. The students also got the opportunity to honor someone close to them who they appreciate! Each student chose either a teacher or staff member who have inspired and helped them through their high school career, they all wrote speeches thanking and shouting out their teacher! A lot of the students and staff members even got emotional! Overall, the experience was sentimental and a lot of the students and staff who participated would agree! “The teacher I honored meant a lot to me; she is who inspired me to do what I wanted to do with my life,” senior Thomas Gannon said.
