The Lions took Frank Ragnow with their pick in the first round of the NFL Draft. Ragnow is a center from the University of  Arkansas. Ragnow will look to make a difference in his first year in the NFL. Lions needed a center, however, they might have missed out on talented defensive prospect Harold Landry. With that being said the Lions have now solidified their defense and have got some protection for Matt Stafford.

Ragnow was a rising prospect in the draft and has been talked about a lot in the past couple weeks. Ragnow is a former First-Team All-American and was the best player on Arkansas’ offensive line. Ragnow had his senior season cut short due to an injury but he is still a talented blocker and should help the lions offensive line a lot. Ragnow is six foot five, 312 pounds from Victoria, Minnesota, and was a four star prospect in the 2014 class.

This selection means Graham Glasgow, who played both center and left guard, will move to left guard permanently. Ragnow will replace Travis Swanson on the offensive line, Swanson left the Lions and signed with the New York Jets this offseason. Ragnow will look to help the Lions in their rushing game since the Lions ranked last in rushing yards last season. This is the second offensive lineman the Lions have selected in the first round in the Bob Quinn era.

Some other landing spots for big name players in the first round of the draft include, running back Saquon Barkley going number two overall to the New York Giants. Former USC quarterback Sam Darnold went to the Jets with the third pick. Quarterback Josh Allen going was selected by the Bills, after the bills traded up for the 7 pick.

The biggest surprises came from the Browns, who had two picks in the top five. The Browns selected quarter Baker Mayfield with their with first overall pick in the draft, who is talented, but is known for having problems on and off the field. The Browns then decided to pass on Bradley Chubb, who ultimately went to Denver with the fifth pick, to select cornerback Denzel Ward from Ohio State. Ward is a talented corner, however Chubb could’ve solidified the Browns defensive line with Myles Garrett. Instead Chubb will be playing for Denver, who has  one of the best defensive players in the NFL in Von Miller.

Only time will tell how good all of these players will be and all of them will look to make a difference in the NFL. The draft is very unpredictable and never know how good a guy is going to be based on the draft. There are a lot of talented guys in the draft this year and it will be interesting to see who makes a difference and who becomes great.
