Disney’s remake of their 1937 classic movie Snow White, came out on March 21, 2025, and was not as horrible as the graphics in the trailer made it seem. Rachel Zegler, who played Snow White, was an amazing choice for this role. It truly surprised me how much she fits her character; she was made to play a Disney princess! Her acting, her expressions, her outfits, and everything all the way down to her gestures while in character truly convinced me that she was made to play Snow White.
While Zegler was the star of the movie, some of her close co-stars like Gal Gadot who played Wonder Woman earlier in her career were also key elements to the story. It was interesting to see Gadot as the Evil Queen; so spiteful and cruel in contrast to her hero role in 2017. Another actor who played his role well was Jonathan (Snow White’s love interest), and Andrew Burnap, who is a new and upcoming actor. Despite his lack of experience in the industry, he played his character with grace. Her final co-star that deserves a mention would absolutely be Andrew Barth Feldman, who played Dopey. At only 22 years old, he truly captured the entire theater’s hearts; his lack of words made it so much more powerful to hear what he had to say.
Although the plot and music strayed away from the original 1937 classic, it wasn’t necessarily a bad thing. Some of the moments were a little cringeworthy, I will admit, but that’s the kind of cheesy and cringy storytelling that you’d expect from a Disney film. Even the CGI was decent, given that the dwarfs were made completely of it. I’m surprised that they didn’t use actors for the dwarfs, but the way they are portrayed in the movie does completely do them justice.
All in all, the Snow White movie was definitely not what I expected. It wasn’t the best movie I’ve ever seen, but it also was definitely not the worst. The remake develops character relationships more and gives a modernized contrast to the 1937 format of the movie. They didn’t completely change the plot, either, which I can appreciate. They kept the remake extremely similar and hit the plot points in a way that didn’t change the outcome of the movie. For example, the ending was filmed differently than the original, but it still ended the same way, in a happily ever after. It’s safe to say that, in my opinion, they didn’t butcher the Snow White movie the way so many fans assumed they would.
