As the last week of my senior year approaches, I think about the times I really took in my high school years, from freshmen year; being so excited to be out of middle school to experience what it’s like being a teenager. Sophomore year being such a blur because I didn’t take it seriously and then junior year, having the ability to make more friends and be more involved at school. Finally, being in my senior year and having the feeling it will be a relief that school is coming to an end, but if I’m honest, I don’t think it will be, coming to school and seeing my friends every day has been a part of my routine.
After June 2, I’ll be pursuing my career choice of culinary arts at Macomb Community College for a couple of years and then getting authentic experience of hospitality and cooking etiquette. Getting older also taught me that I have to take in everything that happens in high school, from taking a biology course, just because and then learning something about zombie fires, or even going to the Friday night themed football games to enjoy the band play at halftime, it makes me think of those moments when I’m moving ahead of time and be grateful I had the “teenage experience.”
Some advice I have for underclassmen is to really take in the moments you have at school, even if it’s a class that you only took to fill in your schedule for next year. Join that after-school sport or club and audition for that role in the play; a little moment can really go a long way. Make your high school years count!
