The symphonic and treble choir buzzed with excitement as they came together for the 2025 Karaoke Competition. Students gathered as soloists, duets, and larger groups, as they were given one week to prepare a song and perform. Throughout the week, the contestants were given time during class to practice and prepare for the stage that awaited them. This competition consisted of two rounds. Round one included everyone that wanted to be considered for the final round. Followed by round two, which consisted of a select group of finalists to compete for first, second, and third place.
Finally, the first day of the competition had arrived, and the contestants reflected on what they had prepared before showcasing their talent. First round contestant Shyla Henry (11) blew the audience away with her stunning show as she sang “Beautiful Stranger” by jazz pop artist Laufey. “Leading up to the performance was such a wonderful experience. Seeing everyone coming together and helping each other find songs warmed my heart, especially since nobody was left out. The singing experience for me was incredibly fun and entertaining, everyone was supportive of me,” Henry said.
After the first round was over, choir director Aubrey Meade deliberated between who she was going to choose for the finals. Later that day, the finalist list was posted and on the following day, the next and final round would commence. The final day arrived, and pressure increases as time decreases. This final round is being judged by staff members Deborah Churchill, Adrienne Miller, DeAuvia Rucker, and Karen Rice. As the round starts and contestants finish one by one, the panel rounds up points to make the final decision.
After decisions were made, the winners were announced. Daniel Penrod (10) earned third place, DeAnthony Miller (10) earned second place, and lastly Adrian Harris (12) earned the title of first place. Miller, who sang “Bored” by Laufey, was ecstatic to win the second-place title. “It feels really good to be in the top three and im so proud of everyone who participated,” Miller said.
Until then, congratulations to all the winners, and an amazing job to others who participated. In this competition, everyone is a winner either way. Who knows, maybe a talent show will happen soon, and even more students can display what they have hidden!
