Through the week of Oct. 21-25, the Pep Squad, led by teacher Lily Cohenour, hosted the Penny Wars. The program was a battle between classes to see which one could raise the most money. Each day during the three lunches, classes and school staff could donate pennies and dollars to their own bins to help raise their points, but they could also throw in silver coins (dimes, nickels, quarters) to bomb other bins. Doing this would take away other classes’ points and if they have enough taken away, that classes’ points could become negative, making them work twice as hard to bring the scores back up. The winning class will get a trophy or plaque to put in their English classes.
“I liked seeing everyone getting so excited about the cause and competition. I can’t wait to do it again and I’m excited to use the money we earned to bring some more spirit to the school,” Cochenour said.
The goal for this year is to raise money to upgrade student sections at events. Cochenour is really looking to enhance the sections at all school events, not just football or sports in general. With staff being the biggest target this year, they surprisingly made a comeback with a winning score of 732. Then our senior class came in second place with a very close score of 670. In third place, we have freshmen with -210. In fourth place the sophomores with a score of -710. Finally, the class in last place, juniors, who had a score of -844.
