The 2024-2025 homecoming coronation happened on Friday Oct. 11, at the homecoming football game during halftime. This year, all four grades were allowed to run for court for the first time in RHS history. It was a very exciting time not just for seniors, but for underclassmen as well.
Freshmen on court adorn the title of baron and baroness, and the couple that have it this year are Connor McMahen and Katie Walls. Sophomores are given the title of duke and duchess, and that couple is Deen Reed and Ava Lee. Juniors wear the title of prince and princess, and our couple for that crown is Reginal Feldner and Isabella Seymour.
Lee, this year’s duchess, was ecstatic about everyone getting the chance to participate in one of the biggest student events of the year. “I think that it’s freaking awesome because a lot of people and a lot of underclassmen have wanted to be on court,” Lee said.
Of course, the crowns of king and queen have been passed down to our 2024-2025 seniors, Michael Chude and Keyonna Scorpio. They were crowned by the previous homecoming king and queen, Dennis Henderson and Presley Rubio. It was a very memorable moment for both of them.
“When I won it, I was really excited because y’know, the school thinks I was well chosen to be queen,” Scorpio said. She has been a player on multiple sports teams, one of them being volleyball. Scorpio thought that she had a 50/50 chance of winning the title, and the odds were totally in her favor. “My dad was there, and he was really excited too, y’know, and he kept saying that he had three out of three, because both of my sisters had homecoming queen,” Scorpio said.
“My favorite moment was getting crowned by one of my closest friends that won the year before me,” Chude said. He was one of the football players that were on court this year and recounts his big moment during halftime. “When I got crowned, I was surprised, I was shocked, but at the same time I was also happy, and my family was happy too,” Chude said.
