21 days, 15 school days, and three weekends. Seniors, this is how much time you have before the end of the school year! Making sure you are not only prepared to graduate, but are also prepared for what comes next, is imperative during this time. Here is a quick overview of everything you should have done and should be doing in order to graduate.
First, and most importantly, make sure you have all the credits necessary to earn your diploma. Even if you have completed everything else, you cannot graduate unless you have passed the classes you need too. Visit your counselor to confirm that all your credit requirements are met. If you have failed a class prior to the 2023/2024 school year, make sure you have, or are currently, completing credit recovery. Seniors must make up any failed classes by May 10th when credit recovery ends.
Next, make sure you have purchased your cap and gown, if you plan on wearing a sibling’s cap and gown, confirm that it is the updated style, and report that you intend on wearing it instead of a newly purchased one to Mr. Lyester Billhymer immediately. You cannot walk across the stage at graduation if you do not have a cap and gown that is the current style for the school.
Additionally, keep in mind that your laptop, charger, and bag must be returned in order to receive your cap and gown. If you do not have these items, be prepared to pay fines for the missing items. Also, make sure to pay any other fines you may have accumulated over the years. All fines must be paid in full by Friday, May 24.
Moving on, if you plan on attending prom, make sure you are prepared. If you plan on bringing a guest that does not attend our high school, get a guest form from your assistant principal, and have that properly filled out and turned in by Thursday, May 9. Tickets will be sold from May 13 to 17. Tickets are $60 per person. Prom will be on Thursday, May 23, from 6 pm to 10 pm at The Vintage House, 31816 Utica Road, Fraser. You must be eligible to graduate to attend prom.
On Monday, June 3 will be cap and gown pick up from 4 pm to 5:30 pm in the cafeteria. Confirm that all fines have been paid, and all necessary credits completed to be able to pick up your cap and gown.
For the final event, graduation will take place Thursday, June 6. Graduation practice will take place the morning of, from 10 am to 12 pm. This practice is mandatory and will be when you receive your six tickets for your chosen guests. Graduation will take place at 7pm, with graduates being required to arrive by 6pm. Graduation and its practice will be held at Macomb Community College, South Campus, Sports and Expo Center, 14500 Twelve Mile Road, Warren, MI, 48088.
Last but not least, buy something to be able to remember your final high school year, and buy a yearbook! Our yearbook staff have been working diligently all year to put together a composition of all the memories and events that happened this year. “Your senior portraits look so good! Buy a yearbook,” Ronald Reeves, senior yearbook student, said. Look for yearbook advisor, Sarah Drouin’s post on Schoology for where to purchase!
