This month, the Leadership class, along with the teacher of the month, did a student of the month for each grade. The students of the month were nominated by their English teachers for their hard work and dedication. A different department will oversee nominating the students every month, next month it will be the Fine Arts department! “We decided to start doing it to be able to recognize students who are not just honor roll students but are hardworking students. We decided to go department by department to make sure everyone is being recognized,” Emilly Collias, teacher of the leadership class, said.
The students who won were freshman Dean Reed, sophomore Daniel Landis, junior Alaysha Hayes, and senior Archie Matthews. “I was happy when I found out I was nominated, plus I got a subway gift card,” Matthews said. “I’m just really surprised, I want to know who nominated me,” Hayes said. “I’m proud I was able to do that, I wasn’t expecting it and was very surprised,” Landis said. “I was surprised, I didn’t know they were doing something like that, so it was a shock to me,” Reed said.
Student of the month is a good way to recognize students who may not be recognized normally, and is a great accompaniment to teacher of the month. So, work hard and maybe it’ll be you next month.
