The welding shop class just finished making metal snowflakes. These are made with five welded t-joints, and it is cut into four pieces and attached together. They use either Lincoln or Miller welders to melt the metal pieces together to make the t-joints and build the snowflake. Some students added extra pieces to their project to make them all look different.
The technique used is called mig welding, which is a metal wire flowing through a pen which heats up and melts the metal together, creating a weld. “The hardest thing about welding the snowflake was getting the patience and perseverance to try my best on learning something new,” senior Richard Lynn said.
With lots of work between cutting, welding, and grinding, the class was able to finish their first big project of the year.
