This Monday, Feb. 9, the RHS annual mock school board meeting took place at the administration building at 7pm. There were 19 seniors present at the meeting who participated in this year’s mock school board. Each senior was given the opportunity to learn about their counterpart’s role on the school board and gain a deeper understanding of the roles and responsibilities associated with each position. Through this experience, students saw how the board members work together, share ideas, listen, and make decisions to support students and families.
“I learned a lot about how money is managed and the thorough process of allocating funds for the district. There are a lot of people that keep things running for the betterment of students. I had so much fun and I’m very glad I got the opportunity to participate in it,” senior Jada Jenkins said.
During the official student school board meeting, there was a nice things happening section, where each senior honored a teacher or staff member that they appreciate and admire. This was such a beautiful and sentimental moment for the students and mentors, something both parties will likely never forget.
“It has been an honor to be recognized for as many years as I have, but this year was extra special because Jada’s words were so heartfelt and meaningful,” Sarah Drouin said.
It was exciting and meaningful for the students to see the behind-the-scenes work that goes into improving Roseville Community Schools. Overall, the experience was educational, enjoyable, and helped the seniors appreciate the teamwork and dedication the board members put into improving our schools.
