On May 6, the Senior Art Seminar class unveiled their murals for the 2025-2026 school year. This class includes 5 students that spend their first semester working on solo art projects, and the second semester on the big project—the murals. The annual unveiling ceremony happens every May to give appreciation to the seniors’ hard work. Students Matthew Bowman and Jada Jenkins painted Claude Monet’s “Water Lilies” from 1906.
This painting is displayed in front of the counseling office. They chose this spot because they wanted people to see it, and they felt that hallway needed some decorating. Overall, their hard work and dedication to this project shows in the painting. “Although it was a tough challenge, I am proud of the way that we mixed the colors, and how we tried our best to make them as accurate as possible. The color mixing process alone taught me a lot, and I have more confidence in my future art,” Jenkins said.
The second mural is a picture from the NASA Hubble Space Telescope. This was done by Neveah Scandalis, Oliver Leppan, and Demetric Jones. They chose this image to paint because they thought it was something unique, as it is a picture instead of a painting. The mural is displayed outside of the Planetarium, which fits its surroundings. Both groups also made presentations with information about their mural.
These paintings are what make RHS unique and interesting. It is a way for students to leave behind their legacy, and for upcoming students to feel inspired.
