Student Spotlight: Rhiley Canada

For many students, life is made up of two things: school and work. When school already takes up seven to eight hours of your day, and work takes up the rest, there doesn’t seem to be much time for anything else. Extracurricular activities and having a spec of a social life fill up whatever remaining time you have left in your day, if even that. However, for students like junior Rhiley Canada, there’s always enough room to make time to do what you love. For Rhiley, it’s hand-crocheting chunky blankets, which are blankets made from thick, heavy yarn, but still act as a regular blanket. She started hand-crocheting around four years ago, and has since turned it into a business, where people can buy her blankets from her.

“I originally started hand-crocheting just for fun. My grandma suggested that starting an actual business would be good for me, so I went on YouTube and began looking into and researching the process of making chunky blankets,” Canada said.

In times like these, it is crucial to find something we love doing, and turn it into something that makes our days just a little bit brighter. Whether this be drawing, writing, or designing things you love for other people, never forget or lose the things that make you happy.

If you would like to find or check out Rhiley’s chunky blankets, you may either find her on Etsy, or on her other social media platforms.
