On Thursday, March 25, 2021, the varsity boys held their first districts game against Lakeview at home, and came out on top, winning with a score of 63-46. The boys worked hard prior to the game and it showed, despite the injuries. Sophomore Makell Dobbs put up 21 pts, junior Derrek Bolton- 11 pts, sophomore Terrence Partridge- 9 pts, senior Mark Alexander- 9 pts, junior Jason Hunter- 3pts, sophomore Brian Hunter- 3pts, and senior Dewayne Gayles- 2pts. During first period, the boys gained their momentum that lasted the entire game, ending the period at 14-9. The Huskies kept tailing behind throughout the second period but did not come close, ending the second with a score of 32-23. After half time, the boys came back out onto the court, with the same energy, and finished the third period 45-38.
“It was a good team effort, our shot makers hit shots and our defenders defended with a purpose. As long as we keep that up, we can go far,” senior Diontae Russell-Johnson said.
The team plays again Saturday at 7 for the district championship at L’Anse Creuse High School against Lakeshore.
