Diving into the season

On Tuesday, Sept. 10, the varsity girls swim team went up against Stevenson High School at their first home meet of the season. The competition was strong because Stevenson is in M.A.C (Macomb Area Conference) . gold, one division above our swim team. The final score was 97-73, making it a tough loss, but many personal records were achieved by individuals. 

In the 200 medley relay, A team, made up of seniors Nicole Powers, Kayla Kornelson, Kara Lightfoot, and Mackenzie Smith, came in second place. Senior Abigail Barnett took second place in the 200 I.M., bringing in four points for the team. After a ten minute warm up break, Barnett brought home five more points for coming first in the 100 butterfly. Kornelson was head to head in the 100 breaststroke, but finished in first place.

 In the final events, the 200 freestyle relay team, consisting of seniors Barnett, Smith, Lightfoot, and Powers, conquered first place. Lastly, the 400 freestyle relay with Kornelson, Barnett, Powers, and Lightfoot came in second place, concluding the meet. After giving high-fives for good sportsmanship and chanting cheers of  accomplishment, the girls went home content and ready to swim harder at the next meet.

The next varsity girls swim meet will be Tuesday, Sept. 17. at Sterlings Heights High School at 6 p.m.
