On Nov 3rd, the ROSE coalition held its third meeting to discuss what students can do to improve mental health and potential roles for some members. Supported by the ‘CARE’ group, ROSE is around to bring positivity to students because sometimes people believe they cannot speak to someone about how they feel.
Every other Monday during 5th or 6th hour, the group will discuss ways to make students feel good about coming to school with a cheerful outlook or being able to feel comfortable speaking to someone about how they are feeling. Sometimes people can be stressed and feel like they cannot go to someone or express themselves about what is going on in their life, so they let it get to a point where they think they are alone which is never the case! These types of reasons are why ROSE was created, mental health is something serious and should not be ignored.
Small gestures like asking someone how they are can make their day better. As of now, members are producing designs for posters, little activities to do to give out to students, and leadership roles to enhance the group.
“Even though I just joined this past meeting, I really like being around people who aren’t afraid to talk about mental health. I see myself being involved with ROSE because I like to talk and it’s a perfect time to say something that isn’t taken seriously”, Kennedie Shepard-Fitzpatrick said.
Do not worry! ROSE is a student-led group, and all students are welcome to join. Spots in this group are closing so make sure you speak to Ms. Rucker, located in B182, to learn more about becoming a member.
