RHS varsity softball defeats Fraser 7-6 in a nail-biting game

On Monday, May 2, the RHS varsity softball team hosted a non-league game against Fraser High School. Even though the game was not a division game, there was still a sense of rivalry because the Panthers are projected to play the Ramblers in the MHSAA District tournament on June 3.

Sophomore Mackenzie Sawicki started in the circle for the Panthers. Sawicki allowed 14 hits over eight innings, striking out ten. Sophomore Cheyenne Dunlap went 4-4 at the plate to lead the varsity Panthers in hits.

The game got tense in the top of the seventh when the Ramblers tied things up 5-5, which took things into extra innings.

In the bottom of the eighth inning, senior captain Jacqueline Brun hit a two run, walk off homer to secure the Panthers’ win. “That’s why we swing at first pitch strikes,” Brun said.

The Lady Panthers will be back in action on Wednesday, May 4 at Lamphere High school, and they hope to see you there
