Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, many after school activities have been canceled. Sports were able to happen, but clubs and other after school activities have been left out. In the virtual world of learning, it is difficult to have clubs be a part of a student’s life.

Jodi Teutsch teaches math at Roseville High School and has been teaching for 14 years. She has been the sponsor of the Rainbow Society ever since they started in 2018. Teutsch said that the Rainbow Society serves as a safe space for the LGBTQ community. When asked if she thought that the meeting could be held virtual, she had this to say.

“It could be possible, but none of the executive members have shown interest this year in trying to do that.”

Clubs could still happen in a virtual fashion, but it would take a lot more planning and dedication from students and teachers to set it up. Clubs could still happen in a virtual fashion, but it would take a lot more planning and dedication from students and teachers to set it up. Teutsch believes that when we go back to school in January, clubs could start up again if students are interested enough.

Clubs are not the only thing affected by virtual learning. Our very own student assembly has had it rough as well. Unfortunately, without school being in person, there isn’t much they can do.

Senior Lucas Horsley joined student assembly to try and help make a difference in the school and try to make school events more engaging and more fun for students.

“It’s hard to make a difference in school when we aren’t in school,” Horsley said.

Going back in January gives Horsley some hope that student assembly can start back up. Horsley says that he hopes that they can start up when we go back, however it’s up to their sponsors.

This school year has been extremely challenging to do anything, in school and out. Hopefully, we can return to normal schooling in January and it stays that way so that our clubs can once again make a difference in our school.
